Just 20 miles from Charlotte Center City, or Uptown, sits the small suburb of Indian Land. It is an unincorporated area and therefore isn’t measured by the US census bureau. A previous vote in the spring of 2018 has an estimated population of around 19,000, making it one of the biggest municipalities in the area. It has the second highest growth rate in the area and the population is expected to increase dramatically in the future.

Indian Land is a part of the Lancaster County school district which has 12 elementary schools, five middle schools, and five high schools. Two of the elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school are located in the town itself. Indian Land High School was recognized as a Red Carpet school for being a family-friendly environment with excellent service. Indian Land Middle School received recognition as a National School to Watch, a Palmetto Gold School, and a Red Carpet School award.

The Lancaster County Parks and Recreation Department offers an after-school program for children from Kindergarten through sixth grade. With a focus on playtime, crafts, homework time, and free snacks, the after-school program provides working parents and guardians the flexibility to balance their daily work schedules with their children’s educational needs.

The Indian Land area has many parks and nature trails to enjoy. With the parks varying in size from a minimal two acres to an incredible 60, there are activities to fit a variety of interests. There are lighted baseball, softball, and soccer fields, as well as tennis courts, dog sites, and concession areas.

The Andrew Jackson Recreation Center is home to dance classes for children during the school year. When school is out for the summer, there are camps that offer arts and crafts, cooking, games, and athletics. For adults, fitness classes including martial arts and Zumba provide options for an active lifestyle.

Lancaster County receives an average of 42 inches of rain every year, which is slightly higher than the national average and contributes to its high humidity levels. The area receives slightly less snow than the national average of 23 inches per year. The four seasons are distinct but are not as extreme as other areas in the United States. The average high temperature rarely exceeds 85 degrees, while the low rarely drops below 20 degrees.

One of the most popular attractions in Indian Land and Lancaster County is the local Farmer’s Market. Open throughout much of the year, the market attracts people from all over the area and is a source of pride for the county. Other amenities in the Indian Land area include miniature golf, several movie theaters, and a variety of specialty shops. Indian Land’s proximity to Charlotte offers many more recreational activities including room escape games, an amusement park, and several bars and clubs.

For those looking for older architectural styles, the Black Horse Run area has homes dating back to the early 1970s and has many affordable options. If amenities are important, the Bridgemill community has a clubhouse and fitness center, as well as a swimming complex and tennis and basketball courts. For the most modern homes, the popular Tree Tops neighborhood offers scenic vistas of a 10-acre lake, surrounded by woodlands.
